All researchers: Scientific visits & Conferences

This funding opportunity is available for all researchers affiliated with AND employed by a MEDAL partner institution (the University of Tartu, Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Radboud University, or the University of Birmingham). The funding is intended to support attending a scientific visit as a mentor or collaborative researcher, participate in a workshop or conference.

Applications are submitted via the online form and include:1

  • basic application form
    • name, etc.
    • affiliation (UT, MPI, RU, UB)
    • applicant category2 (MA/MSc, PhD student, Postdoc, other academic/scientific staff)
    • for ECRs with a PhD: date of PhD defense, time spent on parental or other relevant leave
    • specific activity or event the MEDAL mobility funding is intended for (scientific mentoring or collaborative research visit; MEDAL final conference; Non-MEDAL workshop)
    • list of expected costs3 (travel, accommodation, daily allowance, other)
  • a short CV (max. 2 pages, pdf)
  • letter of motivation (max. 1500 characters), indicating:
    • how the activity is relevant for the applicant’s academic career
    • how the applicant’s participation is relevant to MEDAL goals
    • a statement of financial need (if relevant)
  • time plan for the visit4 (max. 1000 characters)
  • confirmation from the host, indicating the approval of the visit, or confirmation of participation in the event (e.g., registration) (pdf)
  • for MA/MSc and PhD students: confirmation of support from the supervisor (pdf)
  1. Application is ongoing and the decisions are made one month after submission at the latest ↩︎
  2. Scientific mentoring visits are only intended for ECRs and the priority will be given first to ECRs at partner institutes, then to other academic staff ↩︎
  3. The maximum funded amount is €1500 per application unless otherwise regulated by the responsible partner institute’s travel regulations. ↩︎
  4. For scientific visits (collaborative research, scientific mentoring visits): recipients are required to provide the MEDAL Steering Committee with a report outlining activities during the visit, what the recipient gained from the visit and how this experience will support the recipient academically/scientifically in the future (in pdf format, max. two A4 pages). The report is due four weeks after the end of the visit and should be sent to the project administrator in Tartu. ↩︎
