Dagmar Divjak

Dagmar Divjak is a Professorial Research Fellow in Cognitive Linguistics and Language Cognition at the University of Birmingham, where she leads the Out of Our Minds team. Her research integrates insights from language and learning with the aim to understand the knowledge first language users build up through exposure to language. She also investigates how this knowledge can be packaged to optimise second language learning. Her approach is interdisciplinary and she integrates  corpus analysis, experimental work and computational modelling to generate and test the predictions of different models of the mechanisms that support language learning and use in adults.

She represents the University of Birmingham on the MEDAL steering committee and is the head of the workpackage on early-career researcher empowerment. She also works on the GOLD MEDAL project that investigates whether and how morphological redundancy aids language processing in morphologically complex languages like Estonian, Russian and Polish.
