Understanding What Grant Reviewers Expect

You are a researcher. You need funding. So, you apply for a grant. But as you start writing your proposal, your realize that you still don't really know what reviewers of grant proposals really expect from a proposal.

In this workshop we will hear an insider’s perspective on how UK and EU research funders evaluate grant proposals. Returning to MEDAL for one final workshop, Professor Melanie Bell, Professor of Quantitative Linguistics at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, will draw on her extensive experience as a reviewer of such applications to highlight what makes a strong application and which common pitfalls to avoid.

About the instructor

Melanie Bell is Professor of Quantitative Linguistics at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.

Her work has focussed mainly on compound nouns in English, where she has shown that there is far more variability, both in pronunciation and understanding, than received wisdom would predict.
